Power of Millennials: Only They can Eradicate Persisting Evils in America

Millennials constitute a significant number of the American population. However, their potential is often being overlooked in the political arena by custodians of democracies, who are mostly baby boomers and even silent generations.

In any political debate, baby boomer politicians typically rely on one argument that they have the political experience necessary to run the country, so people should vote for them.

If experience really matters this much in running the affairs of any nation, why are all the evils currently persisting in countries across the globe?

Be it extremism, domestic terrorism, surging inflation, nosediving economies, or the failure of global leaders to rein in the deteriorating climate across the globe, everything became a reality because these so-called experienced politicians have become the authoritative practice, denying millennials their much-needed rights in any political arena.

Winning American Independence was not Possible Without Millennials

People who were born somewhere between 1980 to 1996 are called millennials, currently the age somewhere between 25 to 42.

If we look at the age of the founding fathers of the United States, most of them were around this age bracket.

At the time of the American independence in 1776, George Washington was 44 years old, John Adams was 41, Thomas Jefferson was 33, James Madison was 25, and James Monroe was only 18.

Only due to the professional leadership qualities of these young people would America become an independent nation by defeating then-superpower Great Britain.

If the younger leaders can make the country independent, the same group can also put it on the correct path by defying centuries-old traditions and customs that are hindering the progress of the world.

Old Lawmakers are Pushing America to a Dead End Tunnel

If we look at the current makeup of the American Congress, it is portraying a sad state of affairs. Currently, only 31 House members are millennials, while one senator belongs to that age group.

This means that out of 535 federal lawmakers, only 32 are millennials, which constitute less than six percent of the crowd.

Even the silent generation, those who were born between 1928–1945, are greater than that. as they occupy 38 seats in both chambers.

Thus the voice of people more than 70 years of age is more represented than Millenials. What is their experience contributing towards the well-being of the general population or to addressing the changing dynamics of the globe?

When Elon Musk talked about banning a presidential run for people aged more than 70 years old, he was spot on, as they can never be as effective as young people in understanding the fast-changing affairs of America.

Current Innovations are the Child of Mad Young People of Their Eras

The advent of technology has fast-paced most of the things in today’s world. The world would have taken at least 20 decades to show the same progress which it managed to do in the last 20 years had it not been for some mad young people who took incredible steps to revolutionize the field of information technology.

But then came the silent generation and baby boomers, who try to legislate the things invented by young people without having even a bit of knowledge about it.

Why would the silent generation want to see change when they have continuously seen the status quo gaining ground in America. It is a matter of common sense that they would hesitate to legalize things that their minds cannot comprehend and in which they have little stakes.

Obviously, millennials have stakes in the future, but how can the future be left in the hands of those who are already 70 years old and are done with most of their lives.

Even science evinces that older minds are reluctant to change due to some natural mind changes that happen with the passage of time.

Thus the modern problems of the world can only be solved if the younger generations are given enough opportunities to participate in the politics of America.

This can easily be done by fixing the quota of the millennial generation in any election and mandating political parties to give representation to these age groups in their primary elections.

For instance, if 150 millennials can be given seats in House and 40 be given it in Senate, it will be of the greater good for the country that is struggling to legislate in some important domains.

Final Thoughts

Even seeing the voting patterns of lawmakers, it is easy to conclude that younger lawmakers are likely to introduce revolutionary bills in the legislature.

For instance, all loud voices regarding curbing voter suppression and using technology to regulate elections are from younger people. Similarly, millennial lawmakers are inclining towards an inclusive society that is being opposed by older generations.
